This residence explores the main elements of the Hatch House by Jack Hall including execution of opening and closing, use of a grid system, and the use of the term “frame” to establish a programmatic relationship between living space and bedroom space. The
element of opening and closing expands beyond movable shading devices, as the home compresses and expands to establish a relationship between public and private spaces both internally and externally. This allows the home to interact with the site
and prove that a house with similar attributes to a summer home can be passive no matter what time of the year.
