Site + Analysis and Mapping

When visiting the site, my overall experience there was something that stayed with me. What stood out to me the most were the natural elements, such as water, sun, and wind. This lead to my development of my three site analysis mapping models that express my impression of these elements and how they worked on the site.

The first model, representing water expressed areas where rain is filtered and “collected” along one path of the site. The second model, representing sun is a series of photocollaged strips that were taken while walking along each path, and are individually lifted to indicate how much sun exposure is available along that path. Cut outs are also integrated in the photomontages to express where light is shinning in each photo.

The last model represents wind, which is the element that stood out to me the most out of the three. Wind intensity levels on the site were exemplified by a series of folding and lifting forms that I created. One end of the model represents the entry point, where wind is less evident, while the other end represents the strongest winds on the edge of the water (our site)—creating a gradient. By taking this expression of wind flow, I long to translate this language into my design to physically show my personal experience on the site.
